Wanaka Capital Partners is a $50m venture fund, and is Israel's first fund targeted exclusively at early stage Israeli Mid-Tech companies. Wanaka was founded in late 2006 by Odin Investments and Mr. Ronen Melnik, a former partner at McKinsey & Co.
Mid-Tech companies are companies that answer three criteria; (a) The technology is targeted at low-tech, or non-tech industries (b) The R&D needs, in order to develop a market ready product, are relatively small (e.g. less than $5m) (c) Defendable intellectual property.
Mid-tech companies therefore face less market and R&D risks, and so their typical challenges are around commercialization and go-to-market. Example sectors of Mid-tech companies are industrial technologies, water and energy, consumer innovations, medical devices, materials, etc.
The Wanaka Capital team brings commercialization, financial and strategic skills and experiences, and a broad international business network - that are particularly relevant to Mid-Tech companies.
